Similar in composition to olive oil. This type of oil is obtained from special varieties of sunflower. With a high concentration of fatty acid, it is renowned for its nutritional benefits and affordable price.
“Heart healthy” oleic acid is a type of monounsaturated fat found in olive oil, olives and avocado, and now, with developing food technology, in this new type of oil. Olive oil contains approximately 70-75% oleic acid, high oleic sunflower oil around 80%, avocado approximately 70%, whilst ordinary sunflower oil contains only around 31.5% of this fatty acid.
Oleic acid has a beneficial effect on our blood vessels and heart, increasing the so-called “good cholesterol” (HDL-c) in the blood stream and helping to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
